Sandy’s early career was spent applying innovative techniques from financial markets, including Value-at-Risk, to energy market risks and providing detailed price forecasts and market analysis to companies involved in the competitive UK electricity market.


Sandy Wito holds a PhD on the subject of Electricity Trade in Europe and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh. In his spare time he practices Kendo, the Japanese martial art of sword fencing, and Digital and Film photography.

Sandy Wito has over twenty two years of experience in the energy industry in a variety of roles. This experience has provided him with strong commercial, financial and risk management skills.


As Head of Business Development for SSE, Sandy was responsible for growing SSE’s Business to Business sales in Scotland. Prior to that, as SSE’s Fuel Procurement Manager, he was responsible for long-term purchases of gas and coal and acquisitions of energy assets.


Sandy joined SSE as part of the company’s acquisition of Airtricity, where he was based in Dublin as Trading Manager. In this role, he was responsible for developing and managing a front office team to deliver value and hedge Airtricity’s energy exposures in the Irish and British electricity markets.


Before joining Airtricity, Sandy worked for ScottishPower as Business Development Manager, responsible for originating, negotiating and delivering contracts for the sale and purchase of energy commodities and energy related services.


Prior to working for ScottishPower, Sandy spent three years as a senior consultant with IPA Energy Consulting. During this time he consulted on the privatisation and restructuring of Lietuvos Energija, the Lithuanian power company and advised a number of generators in the UK on their preparations for the introduction of the New Electricity Trading Arrangements in England and Wales.
